The Passion of the Christ

Last night after the boys went to bed, we watched The Passion by Mel Gibson. It was an extremely violent movie, but it had a profound effect on me. Emily & I both cried almost through the entire movie. As I was watching those people beat Jesus to a pulp over & over & over, I though of how many times as a child I heard how Jesus was crucified on the cross for our sins, so that we may have life, & have it more abundantly. I knew what that meant, even as a little girl. I knew about the nails they drove through His hands, & the crown of thorns He wore. I knew about the hole in His side where they poked Him with the spear to see if He was really dead. But until I saw that movie, I didn't really "get it". Here was Jesus, the son of the Almighty God, being beaten, & stoned, & tortured. It was real. Real blood...real pain...real emotion. How could anyone see these things & not accept the Lord as their God? What sacrifice..what love...what dedication. I've heard the story a thousand times...just words by some preacher or Sunday school teacher. Sure, it meant something, because I knew that I was saved because it happened & I believed. But last night, it was crystal clear. The sheer magnitude of it was heart wrenching. This movie needs to be seen by EVERY living person on the face of the earth. Every school, every church, every organization, every sports team, every business. Every family. Every household. Every orphanage, every prison, every homeless shelter. And if we forget, show it to us again & again, until we can't forget.
Through it all was Jesus' mother, Mary. She watched as they beat Him...as He carried His cross...as they crucified Him...as He died. I can only imagine the pain & the indecision she must have felt watching her son being killed before her very eyes. But she had to have faith that this was God's will. She was there to hold Him in her arms after He was dead. That had to be one of the greatest testimonies of faith ever. I don't think that I would have made it through, if that was Jhett or Sterling being crucified. We all want to think that we have faith. But is the faith that we proclaim enough, if God asked us to sacrifice one of our own? Words are cheap...actions tell the story.

Easter

Easter weekend, we dyed eggs & had an Easter egg hunt. The boys were so funny. We hid them in the grill, in the trees, behind their bikes, & even one in plain site on the hood of Meana's car. They had a blast! They both made a "yucky" egg where they dipped the egg in all the colors that they wanted. They were very ugly. Of course I made a purple egg, & Meana made a Clemson egg - orange on one end, white in the middle, & purple on the other end.

Jhett lost another tooth at Nana's, but he lost it down the drain when he was washing the blood off. Then last Friday, he lost another one. The tooth fairy came & gave him 2 dollars, one for each. Sterling hasnt lost any teeth yet.

This past weekend, Carver had a Spring Fling. We went on Friday. The boys played games such as tug-of-war, throwing the football through a hoop (Jhett did it), wheelbarrow racing (Sterling won), bean bag toss, jump roping, horse shoes, & the limbo (Jhett had trouble). The funniest thing was the scarecrow game. It is two teams of two. Sterling was paired up with another little fellow. They were against 2 girls. Sterling was the scarecrow. The teacher gave the dresser a card with an article of clothing on it. The dresser had to run to the scarecrow satanding over by the bin of clothes & dress the scarecrow with the item of clothing on the card. Sterling was serious. First was a boot. It was on old heavy duty steel toed work boot. The little dresser could not get the boot on Pud, so after several unseccessful tries, Pud took off his shoes & put the boot on. Everyone watching was laughing. It was so funny. He ended up with a coat on, 2 boots, sunglasses, a baseball hat, a scarf, 2 gloves, & a tie. But the girls were better at it. They won! Jhett got a tattoo of the Chinese Yen & Yang. He kept calling it the Zen. I told him it was a tattoo, not money! They ate cotton candy & other junk. They also got to climb into a fire truck, an ambulance, & they got to sit in the backseat of a police car. They didn't like that too much.

Too Busy To Write

I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to write much. Let's see.....Jhett turned 7 on April 10th! I can't believe it. It seems just like yesterday when we were fighting Charlotte marathon traffic, with me screaming that I wasn't having a baby, & PawPaw following behind us in his little toy Toyota pick-up with his rescue squad lights on ( like he had jurisdiction in Charlotte!!!) For Jhetts birthday, Nana & PawPaw came up & we took Jhett & his friends bowling. The cookout was relocated to the house because it started to rain. The cake was Star Wars, his favorite. He got a bunch of Star Wars stuff, & a new chemistry set, money, & another fly wheel. He also got 3 new polos, but I won't talk about them, because he hates it when he gets clothes for gifts!
For spring break, they both went to Barnwell, & then Emily & I went down on Thursday to get them. We were supposed to go on Wednesday, but I was having back spasms, & I decided it would be best to rest instead of travel. It was much better the next day though. We were supposed to go to Georgia to spend some time with an old friend of mine, Charlene, but her husband's uncle died, so we had to change our plans. Hopefully, we will get there this summer sometime.
Last Saturday, the boys started baseball. This is Jhett's 3rd year playing & Sterling's first. They are playing on the Red Sox. They had a good time. School started back on Monday. Sterling was ready to go, but Jhett wasn't. He hates school.
Abbie moved back to Barnwell, something I thought would never happen in a million years. She sold her house in Myrtle Beach & is living in Snelling right outside of Barnwell. It's good for Missy cause now she has another built in babysitter for Will & Charlie. I just hope she doesn't make life too difficult for mama. Time will tell.
Last weekend movie was Zathura. I actually liked that one. Last night the movie was Robots. It was pretty cool too.
On the business front, we have been busy wheeling & dealing. The days fly by so quickly. I can't believe it is almost summer. We are planning to travel to Maine this year, as well as our regular trip to Florida. Suzanne is supposed to be coming up at the end of the month for a long weekend. That will be a lot of fun.

The New XStitch Project

The Shroud of Turin is the new cross stitch project. I am using 28 count linen, which I have never used before, but I wanted it to look like an actual shroud, kinda dated. Anyway, here's the beginning....

It is Finished!!!
